PRODUCTION
D’Ecru-Design Tableware Materials & Production
Decru-design tableware is manufactured from SUS304 18-8 stainless steel. This steel is recycled from water gates that are manufactured across Japan. The remnants are recycled using a non-toxic polishing process.
D’Ecru-design Tableware Production Process
To create a high quality and durable product from recycled stainless steel, the process is as follows:
- Stainless steel pieces are gathered from water gate manufacturing areas. These gates serve as key infrastructure across Japan and produce excess steel in the process.
- Using Decru-design’s unique stone polishing method, the steel is gleamed organically. This process takes place slowly over three days in a tank with blended polishing stones. Polishing the steel instead of plating it avoids any potential for chipping or toxic reactions.
- Our artisans hand make each Decru-design piece. The steel is bent and twisted piece by piece, creating a unique three-dimensional shape that can be seen in all of Decru-design’s products. These items truly end up becoming one of a kind showstopping pieces.
